AION 2 Pets Beginner Guide: How the Pet System Works
Build a collection you can actually keep track of.
Quick answers
- For ordinary Global pets, owning and upgrading grants owned effects — you do not need to ride them. Special pets are tracked by ownership.
- Ordinary Global pets: 5 souls unlock level 1, 25 more reach level 2 (gliding) and 75 more reach level 3 (transformation) — 105 in total.
- 7 Special pets are tracked by ownership only; they have no soul levels.
- The atlas lists 207 pets; 160 have a named monster in a named map region.
- Confirm current availability in the in-game Pets → Source menu before you travel.
- Levels and targets you record here stay in this browser — export a backup before switching devices.
Why collect and level this pet?
For ordinary Global pets, owned effects come from ownership and upgrades. You do not need to ride this pet to benefit, so you can keep a favourite mount while building collection bonuses.
Start with your version
This atlas covers Global. Do not copy a Taiwan upgrade plan without checking it against your client: level limits and release availability can differ. This tracker uses levels 0–3 for Global. Zero means not collected; it is not an in-game level.
Make a short, useful list
Search for a pet or a monster you already encounter. Open its entry and check the region, acquisition source and evidence. A recorded name is not a guaranteed drop, and an unknown source is not a farming recommendation.
Keep a reliable record
Mark the level after confirming it in your client. The tracker is stored on this device only. Export a JSON backup periodically, especially before clearing browser storage.
Set one objective for the session
Choose between unlocking new ordinary pets and finishing a pet you already own. These are different jobs: a first unlock costs 5 souls, while moving from level 2 to 3 costs 75 more. A short session may suit an accessible new unlock; a longer session may suit one unfinished favourite. This is a planning choice, not a claim that one route always gives better character stats.
Create a three-target shortlist
Pick a primary target, a second target in the same region, and a fallback with a different documented source. Check access to the zone before leaving town. For each target, write down the exact soul name, your current level and unused inventory count. Similar-looking monsters can be different sources. Match the item to the pet name instead of assuming every creature in the area drops the same soul.
End with a useful decision
After the session, compare the result with the goal you set. If the primary source was inaccessible, use the fallback next time; if it was simply unproductive, check the in-game Source menu before repeating the route. Keep unused souls in the calculation and save the collection state only after checking the client. Special pets belong on a separate ownership list, because the ordinary soul schedule does not apply to them.
Collection at a glance

| Cogni ↗ | 41 | 1 → 2 → 3 |
| Fera ↗ | 65 | 1 → 2 → 3 |
| Natura ↗ | 48 | 1 → 2 → 3 |
| Varian ↗ | 46 | 1 → 2 → 3 |
| Special ↗ | 7 | Ownership only |
Ordinary pets only. 5 to unlock, then 25 and 75 more. Soul counts are not kill counts.
